ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a comprehensive weather advisory as a potent western disturbance continues to impact the country, with significant activity expected Wednesday.
Under the influence of this weather system, widespread rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms are forecast to persist across several provinces, bringing both relief from heat and potential logistical challenges.
– Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Widespread rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected throughout the province. Heavy falls and hailstorms are likely at scattered places, with continued snowfall over the northern mountain ranges.
– Punjab & Islamabad: The federal capital, Pothohar region, and upper districts of Punjab are bracing for widespread precipitation. Residents should remain alert for isolated heavy falls and hailstorms throughout the day.
– Gilgit-Baltistan & Kashmir: The region will experience moderate to widespread rain and windstorms. Heavy falls and significant snowfall are anticipated in high-altitude areas, including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, and Skardu.
The PMD has highlighted several critical risks associated with today’s weather patterns:
Flash & Urban Flooding: Heavy rainfall may trigger flash floods in the local nullahs and streams of Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Simultaneously, urban flooding is a concern for low-lying areas in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Mardan, Gujranwala, and Sialkot.
Landslides: The risk of landslides remains high in the vulnerable mountainous terrain of upper KP, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir.
Structural & Crop Damage: Windstorms and hailstorms may pose a threat to weak structures, including solar panels and electric poles. Farmers in Punjab and KP are advised to take necessary precautions to protect standing crops from potential damage.
Travel Safety: Tourists are strongly urged to avoid unnecessary travel to northern areas today, as visibility and road conditions may be compromised.
Temperature Outlook
Due to the ongoing maritime influence and cloud cover, day-time temperatures are expected to remain below normal across most parts of the country, providing a cooler atmosphere for the duration of the forecast period.
