DADU: Umme Rubab, the lawyer who has pursued justice for her family for more than eight years in a 2018 triple-murder case, has gone public with an urgent appeal for protection after claiming she received intelligence that a plot to kill her is underway.
In a post on social media posted days after a local court acquitted all eight accused — including influential figures Sardar Ahmed Khan Chandio and his brother Burhan Chandio — Rubab wrote that she has “confirmed intelligence” of an assassination plan and directly accused elements within the Sindh Police of facilitating or participating in the plot. She singled out a Station House Officer whose transfer or posting to the Dadu/Mehar area she says was arranged as part of the alleged plan and warned that the officer is due to be posted to her city.
Rubab said a police officer described as a “Sardar’s subordinate” had been removed from the area after higher officials intervened, calling that action “a good step,” but she cautioned that the threat to her life remains real and should not be ignored. She has appealed directly to SSP Dadu to address the danger and provide protection.
In another post Rubab reiterated a slogan she has used in recent days — “They want to eliminate us, but they could not eliminate our slogan! Sardar, curse your turban” — a reference to the feudal authority the turban symbolizes and an expression of defiance after what she described as attempts to silence her campaign for justice.
Rubab’s warning comes days after the controversial acquittal in the case and widely circulated video footage showing armed men reportedly conducting heavy aerial firing in celebration at Sardar Khan Chandio’s bungalow; police said they arrested eight people in connection with those celebrations. Rubab has long alleged police inaction and bias in favor of the accused, whom she describes as politically and feudal powerful in Sindh. She also says she survived an alleged assassination attempt in 2021.
Rubab has vowed to continue her legal fight and to appeal the verdict in higher courts. Her social-media post, and the accusations it contains against parts of the local police, have heightened public outrage and intensified debate over the role of feudal influence and law-enforcement impartiality in the province.
