KARACHI: Sindh government spokesperson Sadia Javed has clarified that as of now, no final decision has been made on motorcycle subsidies, adding that however, the provincial administration is still in the process of determining eligibility criteria and implementation mechanics.
Speaking on a private TV program, Javed admitted she did not anticipate the sharp spike in petrol prices and suggested public transport as a partial solution — though she acknowledged its limited reach for many commuters.
From the consumer’s viewpoint, it is pertinent to mention here that Pakistanis are already bearing a disproportionate share of global fuel costs, with prices exceeding Rs. 458 per liter — and no direct relief yet for low-income households.
Sadia Javed said Sindh opposes smart lockdowns, citing the devastating impact on daily wage earners, and confirmed the province has urged the federal government to route any potential fuel subsidies through BISP for targeted delivery.
“We are working on it — who qualifies, how it’s delivered, and how to avoid leakage,” she said, adding that “our goal is to support those most affected, but we need to get the design right before announcing anything.”
Despite all these claims, no timeline or policy details have been released, leaving citizens waiting for concrete steps — not just intentions.
