KARACHI: In light of ongoing rainfall in Karachi, Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Salman Shah, conducted field visits across multiple locations to review water drainage efforts and instructed staff to remain on high alert.
Shah inspected critical flood-prone areas including Drug Road Underpass, Qayyumabad, Teen Talwar, and Punjab Chowrangi. He confirmed that, in anticipation of the rains, 18 de-watering pumps had already been deployed across the city, and rescue vehicles were actively stationed in the field.
On the instructions of Advisor for Rehabilitation Gianchand Israni, four rescue vehicles have been deployed on major highways to assist citizens. Additional resources include: five vehicles in District South, four in Korangi, three in East, and two each in Keamari and Central. Staff and equipment are also positioned at key locations such as Shahrah-e-Faisal, NIPA, Drug Road Underpass, Falak Naz, and NATO Jetty. Focal persons have been appointed across districts including Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur to coordinate emergency response.
Shah emphasized that he is personally monitoring drainage operations across the city. Drainage work is currently underway at Qayyumabad Underpass, with relevant officers present on-site and in direct coordination with local administration. He warned that another round of rain is expected later in the evening and urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and remain cautious.
