ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned of more rain, snowfall, and thundershowers across much of the country as westerly winds enter most regions within the next 12 to 24 hours.
The alert flags widespread rain with strong and gusty winds, plus snowfall in the upper and hilly areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Rain and thundershowers are expected in the northern Punjab belt, including Islamabad, Murree, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Gujar Khan, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin, and Lahore.
Besides these, central Punjab districts such as Khushab, Sargodha, Jhang, Faisalabad, Kasur, Okara, Bahawalpur, Burewala, Multan, Dera Ismail Khan, Narowal, Chiniot, Nankana Sahib, Pakpattan, and Sahiwal also face similar risks.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northern areas, and Azad Kashmir, precipitation is forecast for Haripur, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Astore, Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Rawalakot, Haveli, Poonch, Kotli, and Neelam Valley.
Balochistan regions at risk include Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Qila Saifullah, Pishin, Chaman, Kohlu, Duki, and Harnai.
NDMA highlighted heightened dangers in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Mangora, Batgram, Peshawar, and Abbottabad, where thunderstorms, strong winds, lightning, and hailstorms could damage fragile structures, uproot trees, and disrupt power lines.
Continuous rain raises landslide risks in hilly areas, prompting NDMA to direct all provincial and district authorities to remain on high alert and prepare for emergencies.
