In a strange incident, the White House press service’s number was identified by Google as “Epstein Island,” triggering reactions ranging from irony to outrage.
On March 27, journalists from The Washington Post reported that calling the White House switchboard caused their Android phones (specifically Google Pixel devices) to display the label “Epstein Island” instead of the expected “White House.”
“This was not a number error. This is exactly how the call appeared for some Washington Post journalists who managed to get through to the White House switchboard,” the paper said.
However, when the same number was called from an iPhone, the incorrect name did not appear, prompting The Washington Post editorial team to notify Google.

Google confirmed that a “fake edit” had been made to Google Maps by a user, which was briefly picked up by its caller identification feature on Android phones.
The company reversed the edit, blocked the user responsible for the policy violation, and confirmed that the White House name was displayed correctly shortly after the incident was reported.
It is worth mentioning that Jeffrey Epstein was a convicted sex offender who maintained relationships with numerous high-profile figures. Donald Trump knew Epstein socially in the 1990s and early 2000s, with photographs and reports confirming contact. Trump later said they fell out and denied involvement in Epstein’s criminal activities.
