MUMBAI: In what is being called a major shift for the streaming landscape, the highly anticipated action thriller Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge has officially bypassed its predecessor’s home at Netflix in favor of a record-breaking deal with JioHotstar.
While the original film found global success on the red-branded streamer, the sequel is set to stream exclusively on JioHotstar following its current theatrical run.
According to industry reports from Bollywood, the decision was driven by a combination of massive financial incentives and corporate strategy within the Jio-owned ecosystem. JioHotstar reportedly shelled out a staggering ₹150 crore for the digital rights of the sequel alone, a figure that nearly doubles what Netflix paid for the first installment, making the switch an easy choice for the producers at Jio Studios.
Multiple media reports suggest fans looking to watch the film from home will have to wait for the standard theatrical window to conclude. Following its wide release on March 19, 2026, trade analysts expect the film to follow a 45 to 60-day window before transitioning to digital screens. This timeline points to an OTT premiere between early May and mid-June 2026.
However, given the film’s strong box-office performance, most experts are eyeing the second week of June as the most likely landing date. This move not only highlights the growing bidding wars between major streaming platforms but also signals a push for deeper technical control and synergy within the domestic Indian media landscape.
