Prominent religious scholars from all schools of thought in Pakistan have called for an extension of the Pakistan–Afghanistan ceasefire, urging both brotherly Islamic nations to resolve their outstanding issues through dialogue, patience and mutual trust.
In a joint statement, leading scholars including Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani, Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman, Anwar ul Haq, Muhammad Hanif Jalandhri, Abdul Malik and Yaseen Zafar stated that relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan go beyond mere geography, rooted instead in shared religious, historical and cultural ties. Therefore, disputes should be resolved through dialogue rather than conflict.
The scholars noted that at a time when Pakistan is playing a constructive role in resolving global conflicts, it is equally important to address its own issues through negotiations on a priority basis.
They also urged the Afghanistan government to ensure that its territory is not used against Pakistan and to take action against elements involved in terrorism.
The statement further appreciated the efforts of Saudi Arabia, China and other friendly countries in promoting peace and stability between Pakistan and Afghanistan, calling on both nations to resolve differences in good faith.
The scholars emphasised that extending the ceasefire is essential for regional peace.
