Several passengers were injured after four carriages of the Tezgam Express derailed near Adam Wahan Station, close to Lodhran in Punjab.
According to rescue officials, the 8 Down Tezgam Express was travelling from Rawalpindi to Karachi when it met with the accident en route. Emergency teams were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Initial reports suggest the accident occurred after the coupling hook connecting the coaches broke, causing the train to split into two sections.
Eyewitnesses stated that the hook snapped suddenly, resulting in seven coaches attached to the engine moving ahead, while the rear coaches derailed and overturned.
Following the incident, panic spread among passengers, with cries for help heard across the site. Local residents promptly joined rescue efforts and assisted in pulling out trapped passengers.
Rescue sources confirmed that an operation is underway to shift the injured to nearby hospitals, while the district administration has declared an emergency in medical facilities.
According to the Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), all doctors have been called in to ensure immediate medical treatment for the injured.
Authorities stated that the exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined, and it would be premature to draw conclusions at this stage.
