Disney has unveiled the official trailer for its live-action reimagining of Moana, giving fans their first look at Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Maui, complete with his iconic tattoos, along with Tamatoa, Te Kā, and other familiar characters.
The film follows the epic journey of Moana, a young girl who sets out to save her people, accompanied by a demigod, a singing crab, and a living volcano.
The trailer suggests a faithful adaptation of the 2016 animated classic, featuring memorable scenes such as Maui half-transformed as a shark, Moana dancing with her grandmother Gramma Tala, the battle against Te Kā, and playful moments with Pua and Hei Hei.
The live-action cast includes John Tui as Moana’s father, Chief Tui; Frankie Adams as her mother, Sina; and Rena Owen as Gramma Tala.
Directed by Thomas Kail (Hamilton), the film is produced by Johnson, Dany Garcia, Beau Flynn, Hiram Garcia, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, with Kail, Scott Sheldon, Charles Newirth, and Auliʻi Cravalho serving as executive producers.
Moana hits theaters on July 10, 2026, featuring original songs by Miranda, Opetaia Foaʻi, Mark Mancina, and an original score by Mancina.
