The government has added additional fixed charges to electricity bills, with collection starting from the February billing cycle.
According to officials, these fixed charges have been applied to both protected and non-protected consumers. For protected consumers, a monthly fixed charge of Rs. 200 is levied for usage up to 100 units, while those consuming up to 200 units are charged Rs. 300 per month.
Similarly, for non-protected consumers, fixed charges of Rs. 275 per month are applied for usage up to 100 units, and Rs. 300 for up to 200 units.
Moreover, non-protected consumers using up to 300 units are charged Rs. 350, those up to 400 units pay Rs. 400, and for 500 units, the fixed charge has been increased to Rs. 500.
Officials further said that after the latest increase, the fixed charge for consumers using up to 600 units has been raised to Rs. 675 per month.
