KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) opened the business week on a downward trajectory this Monday, March 16. The benchmark KSE-100 index hit a level of 152,780 points during trading, shed a total of 1,085 points as the negative trend took hold.
The day was marked by significant fluctuations, with the index touching a high of 153,943 before retreating to a low of 152,347. This slide follows a closing figure of 153,866 points at the end of last week, signaling that the market is struggling to find a floor after recent volatility.
This latest dip comes on the heels of a relentless “bloodbath” last week, where the KSE-100 index succumbed to a sharp escalation in Middle East hostilities. Over that five-day period, the index lost 3,629 points, marking its seventh consecutive weekly loss—a streak that has left investors reeling amidst deepening regional instability.
Last week was defined by extreme turbulence, with the index swinging within a massive band of 14,505 points, hitting a high of 158,624 before plunging to a low of 144,119. During that high-stakes period, deals for 2.25 billion shares were settled, valued at 132 billion rupees, as participants desperately scrambled to adjust their positions.
