The federal government has jacked up the price of kerosene oil by another Rs40 per liter, making it the most expensive fuel at Rs358 per liter.
The price of kerosene rose by around 12.6 percent on March 14, pushing the overall increase to about 90 percent compared to its earlier rate of Rs188.87 at the start of the month.
However, the government decided to leave petrol and diesel prices unchanged for the week ending March 20.
Earlier, the government had already raised kerosene prices by nearly 70 percent, increasing them from Rs130.08 to Rs318.81 per liter. Before that, the rate implemented on March 1 stood at Rs188.73 per liter.
Kerosene, also known as heating oil, is widely used by households in remote areas where access to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders is limited.
It is worth noting that on March 7 the government increased petrol prices by Rs55 per liter, taking them to more than Rs321.17 per liter, while diesel prices reached Rs335.86 per liter. The hike has been linked to rising international oil prices amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
