ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday granted the registrar’s office time to resolve objections raised in a petition filed by PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister, Uzma Khan, seeking his immediate transfer from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital for specialised medical treatment.
A single-member bench comprising Justice Inam Amin Minhas heard the matter briefly and directed the registrar’s office to prepare a report on the objections, which appear to be procedural in nature. The court did not proceed to a full hearing on the merits of the petition, effectively adjourning further proceedings pending resolution of the issues flagged by the registrar.
The petition, filed by Dr Uzma Khan — sister of the incarcerated former prime minister — urges the court to order Mr Khan’s shift to Shifa International Hospital amid serious concerns over his deteriorating eye condition, including reported significant vision loss in one eye. It seeks arrangements for comprehensive medical examinations by doctors of his choice, including Dr Asim Yusuf, Dr Faisal Sultan, Dr Khurram Mirza and Dr Samina Niazi, along with blood tests and provision of full medical reports covering the past three months.
The application further requests continuous access for family members, lawyers and chosen physicians during treatment and detention, as well as timely updates on his health status, invoking Article 9 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to security of person, arguing that denial of specialised private care amounts to a violation of fundamental rights.
