Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that amid regional tension, on the advice of the federal government, the Sindh government has also started an austerity campaign.
Addressing a press conference after provincial cabinet meeting, Sharjeel Memon said the fuel consumption of government vehicles has been reduced by 50 percent and this will save Rs960 million. About 60 percent of vehicles in government departments will be closed for two months, Sharjeel Memon said.
He said ministers and advisors will not take three months’ salary from April to June. Non-essential purchases have been stopped which will save Rs12 billion. He said purchase of new vehicles has been banned as well. Foreign official tours have been restricted and in case of any important tour, that will be in economy class.
He announced that schools to be closed from March 16 to March 31 but exams will be held as per schedule.
Memon said that government employees attend office from Monday to Thursday while work will be done from home on Friday. He said many ministers of Sindh cabinet have announced to return police mobiles.
He said that Home Ministery has been ordered to withdraw unnecessary security from former caretaker ministers. Wherever necessary, mandatory security should remain. Security should be withdrawn from people who have amateur security.
There will be no refreshments in government offices for another two months.
