An incident of gunfire has been reported outside the United States Consulate General in Toronto in Toronto, which authorities are treating as a possible act of terrorism.
According to international media reports, the shooting occurred early in the morning outside the consulate building located in Toronto’s downtown area.
Police officers reached the scene shortly after receiving the report and found spent bullet casings and other evidence of gunfire outside the building.
Preliminary investigations indicate that two unidentified individuals arrived in a white vehicle, exited the car and fired multiple shots at the consulate building before fleeing the scene.
The shooting caused partial damage to the building’s entrance and windows, but no injuries were reported.
The Toronto Police Service and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police have launched a joint investigation, treating the incident as a matter of national security.
Investigators have also released an image of the suspected vehicle involved in the attack and appealed to the public for information.
Following the incident, security has been further tightened around US and Israeli diplomatic buildings in Toronto and Ottawa.
