Karachi: As the holy month of Ramadan nears its end, Karachi is witnessing a surge in street crimes, while law enforcement agencies intensify operations to curb gang activities. In Lyari, SIU arrested two key operatives of an inter-provincial drug gang, even as incidents of looting — including the viral video of an elderly citizen being robbed — highlight growing public concern.
Special Investigation Unit (SIU) carried out an operation in Lyari and arrested two key operatives of an inter-provincial drug gang.
According to SIU officials, the action was taken after receiving information about the presence of extortionists linked to the Lyari gang war. SSP SIU stated that a large quantity of weed was recovered from the arrested suspects, and a case has been registered against them.
Meanwhile, incidents of street crime are on the rise in Karachi as the end of Ramadan approaches.
Yesterday, four bandits robbed an elderly citizen on Road No. 5, Buffalo Colony. A video of the incident, recorded on a mobile phone, has gone viral on social media. In the footage, two robbers can be seen snatching valuables from the senior citizen.
