Authorities have issued a security alert in Islamabad and Rawalpindi amid fears of potential terrorist activity. Officials say there is a risk of attacks by militants within the next 48 hours.
According to reports, pressure from the Taliban regime on militant groups and sleeper cells, including the Balochistan Liberation Army and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, may lead to retaliatory attacks against security forces.
Officials warned that sensitive locations in Islamabad, including Faisal Mosque, Centaurus Mall, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, the H-8 Sunday Bazaar and mosques in the G-6 market area, could be targeted, particularly during Taraweeh prayers and Friday congregations. Militants may also target shopping centres and other crowded places.
In Rawalpindi, areas such as Saddar, Raja Bazaar, Sadiqabad Bazaar (Trolley Adda), Dubai Plaza and Moti Bazaar are also considered potential targets.
Security officials have advised citizens to avoid crowded places and temporary stalls over the next 48 hours where there may be a heightened risk of terrorist activity.
