LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to establish “anti-drone units” in all districts of the province, each equipped with jamming systems to disable hostile drones.
Media reports cited Home Department as saying that the initiative, to be led by district police officers (DPOs), comes as police capacity is being expanded for aerial surveillance and public safety.
The move follows the federal as well as provincial government’s imposition of a ban on outdoor drone flights under Section 144, citing security concerns and the risk of terrorist threats, while exempting law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
Just days earlier, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had approved the launch of a province-wide anti-drone force and directed the installation of digital scanners at entry and exit points, underscoring a broader security strategy aimed at safeguarding installations, buildings and citizens against drone-related threats.
