ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority NEPRA has approved a Rs.0.35 per unit hike in electricity tariffs for March–May to recover Rs.8.67 billion, further eroding consumer relief after government raised petroleum prices twice in just 15 days, including on March 1.
With the latest adjustment, households and businesses are all set to see a modest increase in electricity bills over the next three months. Justifying its move, the authority stated that such revisions are carried out regularly and shared in advance so consumers can plan for changes in their expenses.
It may be mentioned here that this is the second quarterly hike in the current financial year. Earlier, tariffs were raised by 33 paisa per unit for the July–September 2025 quarter, which continued to apply from December 2025 through February 2026. On top of that, another 33 paisa per unit increase was added under the December fuel price adjustment.
The regulatory authority has now sent its decision to the federal government for final approval before implementation.
