Top brass across multiple branches of the U.S. military have reportedly told their units that the war against Iran is “anointed by Jesus” and would usher in his return to Earth as part of “Armageddon.” These remarks have triggered numerous complaints from service members.
One non-commissioned officer, writing to the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF), described a recent briefing:
“This morning our commander opened the combat readiness status briefing by urging us not to be afraid of what is happening with our operations in Iran. He told us this was ‘all part of God’s divine plan’ and cited passages from the Book of Revelation about Armageddon and the imminent return of Jesus Christ.”
The MRFF, a non-profit dedicated to protecting religious freedom in the armed forces, said the officer submitted the complaint on behalf of himself and 15 others in his unit.
The group included at least 10 Christians, one Jewish member, and one Muslim member, with the beliefs of three others unknown.
According to the foundation, this was just one of more than 200 complaints received from over 50 military units since Saturday, when President Donald Trump announced sweeping strikes against Iran in coordination with Israel.
