ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has condemned attack on Iran and offered condolences over the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei.
Addressing the ongoing Senate session, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar informed the House that he had attended the emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah and immediately contacted the Iranian Foreign Minister following the recent attack on Iran. The Deputy Prime Minister also read out the Prime Minister’s condolence message in the House.
Dar stated that after the attack, Pakistan engaged in extensive diplomatic outreach, contacting the Foreign Ministers of Turkey, Maldives, Bangladesh, Palestine, Iran, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, and Oman, adding that he also spoke with the European Union leadership and representatives of 13 other countries, emphasizing Pakistan’s consistent stance of condemning aggression against Iran.
Highlighting Iran’s importance as a neighboring country, Ishaq Dar noted that the Foreign Minister of Oman had informed him of positive progress in Iran-US talks. He further mentioned that Pakistan had maintained regular contact with the Saudi Foreign Minister and other regional counterparts.
The Deputy Prime Minister recalled that when Iran was attacked in June last year, Pakistan had reached out to all regional countries. He reiterated that he had personally met the DG IAEA in Austria, informed him of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts, and later traveled to Geneva where talks concluded positively. However, he regretted that the sudden attack was repeated on June 13.
The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that Pakistan has fulfilled its responsibility and will continue to do so, making several diplomatic offers behind the scenes to help resolve the issue. He shared that on June 12, Field Marshal had arrived in Istanbul from London, and during his own meeting with the Iranian Foreign Minister, Pakistan had urged resolution through negotiations — a proposal that received a positive response from Iran.
