ISLAMABAD: Senior security official have dismissed rumors suggesting Pakistan could be the next target of US-Israeli military action, following Iran, suggesting these guess-work are “without basis in fact” and are being propagated by “agents of chaos.”
This assertion came amid increasing regional tensions and speculation regarding military operations in the Middle East. Recent reports have tied the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran to concerns that similar actions could extend to neighboring countries, stirring worries among Pakistanis about potential repercussions.
It is worth mentioning that in the wake of the recent US-Israeli airstrikes against Iran, there’s been growing speculation about the possibility of Pakistan facing similar military actions. Some analyses from Western think tanks have even raised concerns about potential repercussions for nuclear-armed countries in the region.
In an official briefing to the media, officials clarified that Pakistan is not like Iran; the country is well integrated into the global community and is fully capable of defending itself. They also criticized those pushing “alarmist narratives,” asserting that such individuals are driven by “nefarious and self-serving interests.”
Officials remarked that the notion of Pakistan being the next potential target was unfounded and fundamentally misguided. “It’s important to recognize that Pakistan and Iran are fundamentally different in terms of military strength, foreign policy, and internal dynamics,” they explained.
The officials highlighted that Pakistan adheres to “a strong foreign policy” and values its relationships with a variety of global partners. “Our focus is on engagement to promote the stability and prosperity of our people,” they added.
Security officials were of the view that Pakistan’s relations with other countries were grounded in “mutual respect and trust,” showcasing a strategy that effectively balanced its connections with Washington, Tehran, and Riyadh while avoiding involvement in bloc politics.
It may be recalled here that Pakistan’s military capabilities in terms of its swift response to any misadventure were demonstrated last year during a brief four-day conflict with India, where it successfully downed several Rafale jets and showcased its operational readiness. This past performance underlines Pakistan’s ability to defend its interests and highlights its formidable military presence in the region.
