Large-scale destruction has been reported in Tel Aviv following Iranian missile strikes, according to Israeli media.
The newspaper Haaretz reported that the city’s municipality confirmed at least 40 buildings sustained varying degrees of damage, including several residential blocks.
The attacks, carried out between Saturday night and early Sunday morning, reportedly involved the use of ballistic missiles.
Some buildings were directly hit, triggering powerful explosions, fires and shattered windows, with structural damage reported in multiple locations.
Drone footage and images circulating online show burning buildings, damaged vehicles and plumes of smoke rising over central areas of Tel Aviv.
Municipal officials said more than 200 residents were evacuated from their homes as a precaution and relocated to three hotels across the city. Detailed assessments of the affected buildings are under way, with authorities taking urgent steps to facilitate residents’ recovery and return.
Initial reports from Israeli ambulance services and hospitals indicate that one woman was killed in the strikes, while more than 25 people were injured, several of them said to be in critical condition. Various reports have put the number of injured between 20 and 28.
The strikes were reportedly launched in response to the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, who was said to have died in joint US-Israeli attacks. Regional tensions remain at a peak, with the possibility of further retaliatory action from both sides.
Air raid sirens sounded across Tel Aviv and other parts of Israel, forcing residents into bomb shelters. Security agencies have been placed on high alert as the situation continues to be closely monitored.
