The federal government has announced a fresh hike in fuel prices, increasing the cost of petrol by Rs8 per liter and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs5.16 per liter for the upcoming fortnight.
Under the revised rates, petrol will now be sold at Rs266.17 per liter, up from Rs258.17, while the price of HSD has risen to Rs280.86 per liter.
In a statement, the Petroleum Division said the adjustment was made in line with recommendations put forward by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA). The updated prices came into effect from March 1.
It is worth mentioning that petrol is widely consumed by private vehicle owners, motorcyclists, rickshaw drivers and small transport operators, meaning the increase is expected to directly impact household budgets, particularly those of middle- and lower-income groups.
