Dreams have a funny way of taking root in the most ordinary moments, a childhood story here, a classroom daydream there.
For Shenba, a young woman from Tamil Nadu, that dream took the shape of South Korea, a distant world she longed to experience beyond the boundaries of her hometown.
Her story comes to life in Made in Korea, premiering exclusively on Netflix on March 12.
Produced by Rise East Entertainment and written and directed by Ra. Karthik, the film follows Shenbagam on a life-changing journey from the heart of Tamil Nadu all the way to Seoul, where her lifelong fascination with Korean culture finally meets reality.
But Seoul proves to be far more complex than she imagined. The film traces her path through unexpected challenges, personal growth, and the meaningful connections she forms along the way — a quietly powerful story of aspiration and self-discovery.
Director Ra. Karthik drew inspiration from the surprisingly deep cultural and historical parallels between Tamil and Korean heritage. He describes the film as a warm, slice-of-life celebration of that unique bond, expressing gratitude to Netflix for backing stories that cross linguistic and cultural boundaries.
Netflix India’s VP of Content, Monika Shergill, echoed that sentiment, calling the film a perfect example of local stories with universal resonance, intimate and endearing, yet globally relevant.
Priyanka Mohan leads the cast as Shenba, bringing genuine emotional depth to the role, alongside acclaimed South Korean actors Park Hye-jin, known for Squid Game, and No Ho-jin, grounding the film in authentic multicultural representation.
Made in Korea premieres March 12, only on Netflix.
