The Punjab government has decided to outsource another 2,735 public schools across various districts of the province as part of its ongoing school privatization drive.
The Punjab School Education Department has invited applications from private sector stakeholders interested in taking over the management of these institutions.
The scrutiny process for applicants will be completed by March 31, after which the selected parties will assume charge of the schools in April.
According to official details, 247 schools in Rahim Yar Khan, 157 in Khanewal, 112 in Faisalabad, and 150 in Bahawalnagar will be handed over to the private sector. In Lahore, 42 government schools will be outsourced, while 82 in Chiniot, 92 in Layyah, 94 in Kasur, and 128 in Multan are also included in the list.
The School Education Department said that in the third phase, schools with more than 100 students and at least two teachers will be transferred to private management.
Officials added that more than 10,000 public schools have already been handed over to the private sector under previous phases of the program.
