The Muttahida Qaumi Movement–Pakistan (MQM-P) has stepped forward to set the record straight after what it described as a misrepresentation of remarks made by Dr. Farooq Sattar in recent media coverage.
The party clarified that Dr. Sattar had made it explicitly clear that the gas-powered generator installed in the basement of Gul Plaza had absolutely no link to K-Electric, whether in terms of its installation, day-to-day operations, or overall management.

The party’s spokesperson explained that the generator was licensed by the Sindh Energy Department, with monthly inspection duties assigned to the electrical inspector under the Government of Sindh.
MQM-P alleged that these mandatory inspections had been neglected over recent years and pointed to this failure as the likely cause behind the devastating fire at Gul Plaza that claimed several lives.
In light of these revelations, Dr. Farooq Sattar has called for the establishment of a judicial commission to conduct a thorough probe into what he described as serious negligence and to hold those responsible accountable.
The party stressed the importance of presenting the public with accurate and transparent information, urging that no misleading narrative be allowed to persist surrounding the tragic incident.
