LAHORE: Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial’s WhatsApp has been hacked, it emerged on Wednesday.
According news reports, citing sources, after former Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial’s WhatsApp account was hacked, the hacker started demanding money from the former Chief Justice’s contact numbers.
Sources said that Umar Ata Bandial contacted the NCCI and filed a formal complaint on the matter.
It should be noted that former Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial retired from office in September 2023, after which Justice Qazi Faez Isa took the oath of office as Chief Justice.
This incident comes amid increasing reports in Pakistan of WhatsApp accounts being targeted by hackers and scammers.
Government agencies have previously warned public officials and citizens about attempts to hack mobile phones or messaging accounts using phishing and other techniques aimed at extracting sensitive information.
Cybersecurity experts advise all users to enable two‑step verification, strong passwords, and alert notifications on WhatsApp to mitigate the risk of hacking.
