Senior leader of the Awam Pakistan Party (APP) and former provincial minister Syed Zaeem Hussain Qadri passed away today in Lahore.
Family sources and party representatives confirmed that the veteran politician had been battling heart-related complications. He was 61.
According to family members, Mr. Qadri had been under treatment at a private hospital in DHA for the past three days due to a recurring heart ailment. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, he breathed his last earlier today.
Funeral prayers will be held today at 6:30 PM (after Maghrib prayers).
Syed Zaeem Qadri was a prominent figure in Pakistan’s political landscape, known for his articulate debating skills and steadfast loyalty to his party leadership.
For decades, he was a core member of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). He served as a Member of the Punjab Assembly (MPA) and held the portfolio of Provincial Minister for Auqaf and Religious Affairs.
Most recently, he played a pivotal role in the formation of the Awam Pakistan Party, led by former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. At the time of his passing, he was serving as the Punjab spokesperson for the party.
Political leaders across the spectrum have expressed their grief. Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi described Qadri as a “loyal comrade and a man of great integrity,” while Punjab government officials noted his contributions to the province’s religious and administrative sectors.
