Global icon Priyanka Chopra Jonas has finally broken her silence regarding the persistent scrutiny and criticism surrounding her marriage to American singer Nick Jonas.
In a recent candid interview with international media, the 43-year-old actress addressed the “naysayers” who have spent years highlighting the couple’s age gap, differing religions, and cross-cultural backgrounds.
Eight Years and Counting
Priyanka, who married Nick in a lavish ceremony in Rajasthan in 2018, noted that their union has now stood the test of time for eight years. Addressing those who predicted the marriage wouldn’t last, she was blunt:
“If someone is waiting for our marriage to end, they can keep waiting. I have stopped thinking about it. It is every person’s personal decision whether they want to live their life with the person they love or not.”
The “Cross-Cultural” Challenge
The actress reflected on why their relationship became such a lightning rod for public debate. She suggested that the combination of being from different countries and religions, coupled with a 10-year age gap, made them an easy target for gossip.
At the time of their wedding, Priyanka was 36 and Nick was 26.
The couple famously engaged within just six months of meeting. “When I married him, I wasn’t even sure if this was all real or not,” she admitted, praising Nick’s sincerity and maturity.
Focusing Inward
Despite the “painful” nature of the initial criticism, Priyanka emphasized that the couple chose to focus on each other rather than the noise.
“We focused on one another instead of listening to others because it doesn’t matter. Now, all of that is meaningless to us,” she stated. The couple, who welcomed their daughter Malti Marie in January 2022, continue to balance their high-profile careers between Hollywood and India.
