Former Pakistan international Ahmed Shehzad became emotional during a live television show after not being selected for the 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
During an appearance on local TV show alongside fellow star Mohammad Amir, the former opener admitted that the snub had deeply hurt him.
“I feel very sad. I am happy to see my fellow players, but I feel disheartened for myself,” Shehzad said.
Holding back tears, he added, “What hurts the most is that my son wants to see me play. He is nine years old now.”
The national cricketer became visibly emotional as he shared that his son sleeps beside him at night and tries to comfort him. “He tells me, ‘Papa, I remember you used to play. Now I will remember you properly,’” Shehzad said.
“I am otherwise happy, but this is something that has truly affected my heart,” he added.
Ahmed Shehzad made his international debut for Pakistan in 2009 and was once regarded as one of the country’s most promising opening batters.
He has represented Pakistan in Tests, ODIs and T20Is, scoring centuries in all three formats. Shehzad notably became the first Pakistani cricketer to score a century in all formats of international cricket.
