Four police officials, including a station house officer (SHO), were killed on Wednesday when militants ambushed a police team during a targeted search operation in the Wanda Budh area.
The operation was launched within the limits of the Shaheed Nawab police station after intelligence inputs indicated the presence of armed militants in the locality. As the police party moved through the area, gunmen opened fire without warning, triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire.
Among those killed in the attack were SHO Faheem Mumtaz, Constable Irfan Khan, Constable Ghulam Subhani, and Constable Wajahat. Authorities said reinforcements were dispatched to the area, and a search was underway to track down the assailants.
In a separate incident in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district, security forces thwarted a large-scale assault on the Khonia Khel Police Post in the Wazir subdivision. Militants armed with heavy weapons launched a late-night attack in an apparent attempt to overrun the facility.
Alert police personnel returned fire, killing three attackers and injuring nine others, forcing the remaining militants to flee the scene.
