Scotland on Monday beat Italy by 73 runs in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Batting first, Scotland made 207 runs for loss of four wickets in allotted twenty overs. In reply, Italy were all out at 134 runs in 16.4 overs.
Ben Manenti led Italy’s batting with a fluent 52 off 31 balls, striking five fours and a six. Harry Manenti chipped in with 37 from 25 deliveries, including one four and three sixes, while JJ Smuts added a quick 22 off 11 balls with two fours and two sixes.
Anthony Mosca made 11, but the rest of the lineup failed to contribute, and captain Wayne Madsen did not bat after suffering a shoulder injury mid-match.
For Scotland, Michael Leask starred with the ball, returning figures of 4 for 17 in four overs. Mark Watt took two wickets, while Brad Currie, Brad Wheal and Oliver Davidson claimed one each.
Earlier, Scotland made a strong start with openers George Munsey and Michael Jones taking the score to 50 by the seventh over. Munsey registered his 14th T20I half-century, while Jones provided solid support.
