The Pakistan Business Forum (PBF) has called on the government to regulate companies producing packaged milk, reducing the price of Tetra Pak milk by Rs50 per liter.
According to the PBF, dairy products are a daily necessity, yet there are no controls on pricing.
Milk companies are reportedly selling milk in retail markets for Rs360 to Rs380 per liter, while the actual cost, including logistics, comes to only Rs180 per liter.
The PBF said that in India and Bangladesh, the price of Tetra Pak milk ranges from Rs250 to Rs270 per liter. Revenues of major companies in 2025 are estimated between Rs60 billion and Rs100 billion.
Ahmed Jawad, chief organizer of the Pakistan Business Forum, urged the government to reduce the GST on dairy products to 7 percent, stating that promises to curb inflation remain unfulfilled.
He demanded an immediate Rs50 per liter reduction in the price of Tetra Pak milk.
It is worth mentioning that prices of Tetra Pak milk had considerably gone up since government imposed a new 18% sales tax in the 2024-25 budget, which previously did not apply.
