The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Friday witnessed selling pressure as the benchmark KSE-100 Index dropped over 3,700 points.
At close, the benchmark index settled at 184,129.58, a decline of 3702.50 points or 1.97%.
Selling was witnessed across key sectors, including cement, commercial banks, fertilizer, oil and gas exploration companies, oil marketing companies (OMCs) and power generation.
It should be noted that the Pakistan Stock Exchange remained closed on Thursday in observance of Kashmir Day.
On Wednesday, buying momentum extended into a fourth straight session, with the KSE-100 index advancing 931 points at the close.
Meanwhile, gold prices climbed on Friday, while silver experienced sharp volatility amid a global equity sell-off. Adding to market caution, US exchange operator CME raised margin requirements on precious metals for the third time this year to curb risk.
Spot gold gained 2.3 per cent to $4,879.45 per ounce by 05:52am GMT (10:52am PST) and was up 0.3 per cent for the week. US gold futures for April delivery edged up 0.2 per cent to $4,897.20 per ounce.
Silver prices surged 3.8 per cent to $73.91 an ounce after tumbling nearly 10 per cent in early Asian trade to below the $65 level, a more than six-week low. The metal had plunged 19.1 per cent in the previous session.
