Author J.K. Rowling has firmly rejected claims of any association with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, following renewed online speculation triggered by the latest batch of U.S. Department of Justice documents related to Epstein’s case.
The controversy arose after Epstein’s name surfaced in connection with an invitation to the 2018 Broadway opening of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
Released files show that publicist Peggy Siegal, a longtime Epstein associate, emailed producers requesting tickets for the April 22 event, but Epstein was ultimately turned away at the door, as his name was not on the guest list.
Critics quickly linked this to Rowling, suggesting her team had extended the invite more than a decade after Epstein’s 2008 conviction for sex offenses.
In response, Rowling took to X (formerly Twitter) to categorically deny any involvement.

The DOJ documents appear to support her statement, revealing no direct communication or meeting between Rowling, her representatives, and Epstein.
The invitation effort stemmed from third-party requests, not from the author or her production circle.
The Harry Potter creator, known for her outspoken views, has faced polarized public reactions in recent years, but this incident underscores her insistence on distancing herself from the disgraced financier.
