Unidentified hackers reportedly breached the security of digital advertising screens on Khyaban-e-Ittihad Road in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area, broadcasting inappropriate and explicit content to the public.
According to reports, the incident occurred on the advertising screens installed at Abdul Sattar Avenue, Khyaban-e-Ittihad. The hackers managed to gain control of the system and aired the controversial content for several moments.
Videos of the incident quickly went viral on social media, prompting immediate action from relevant authorities who shut down the affected screens.
In response to the security breach, authorities have temporarily disabled several digital billboards across major arteries of the city, including Shahrah-e-Faisal and Karsaz Road, as a precautionary measure to prevent further unauthorized access.
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) and the Cyber Crime Unit have launched a formal investigation into the matter.
Officials stated that technical evidence is being gathered to trace the digital footprint of the hackers and identify those responsible for the breach.
Reports indicate that over 1,061,000 links containing obscene or inappropriate content have recently been blocked in the country.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has reiterated its demand for YouTube and other platforms to proactively block hateful and immoral content.
