Nearly 289,265 Pakistani citizens migrated to the United Kingdom over the past five years, highlighting a growing trend of outward migration amid economic uncertainty and limited domestic opportunities, according to data released by the Ministry of Interior.
The official figures cover the period from 2021 to 2025 and show a steady rise in the number of Pakistanis relocating to the UK. In 2021, around 24,905 Pakistanis moved to Britain, followed by 51,506 in 2022. The number rose sharply in 2023, with 79,561 departures, while 62,593 Pakistanis left in 2024. In 2025, the figure climbed again to 70,700.
The data shows that education and employment were major drivers of this migration. Over the last five years, 86,976 Pakistani students travelled to the UK on study visas, reflecting an accelerating brain drain as young and skilled individuals seek better academic and career prospects abroad. Additionally, 30,974 Pakistanis migrated on work visas during the same period.
Tourism and visit visas also contributed significantly. Between 2021 and 2025, 133,566 Pakistanis travelled to the UK on visit visas, including 37,749 on tourist visas.
Experts warn that the sustained outflow of students and skilled workers could have long-term consequences for Pakistan’s economy.
