An exclusive investigative report by a local TV channel Suno News has revealed staggering figures regarding liquor consumption within the provincial capital.
According to leaked official documents, a massive volume of alcohol was sold in just five of Lahore’s most prominent private hotels over a single year.
The investigation highlights a significant revenue stream generated through the sale of liquor in a city where such transactions are strictly regulated.
Within a 12-month period, alcohol worth Rs8.60 billion was sold in a single city.
This entire Rs8.60 billion worth of liquor was sold exclusively within just five private hotels in Lahore.
The report is backed by detailed records showing quantity sold, vend fees, and sales tax paid between July 2022 and June 2023.
This concentrated revenue suggests that a small number of elite venues serve as the primary hubs for this regulated trade, catering to a specific clientele within the city’s upscale hospitality sector.
While the sale of alcohol remains a sensitive and highly regulated subject in Pakistan, the sheer volume of these figures, averaging over Rs 700 million per month across just five locations, indicates a robust and highly profitable commercial network operating under the radar of general public discourse.
