The federal government has greenlit Rs1 billion allocation to produce a high-quality historical drama series on the lives of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
The decision was revealed Wednesday during a National Assembly Standing Committee meeting chaired by Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar.
Following the Prime Minister’s directives, the project aims to adopt the narrative style of the popular Turkish series Ertugrul to inspire the younger generation with the struggles and ideals of Pakistan’s founding fathers.
The Iqbal Academy has already begun interviewing Allama Iqbal’s descendants for the project.
While the drama project moves forward, other heritage initiatives face hurdles. The committee was informed that the proposed National Museum near Shakarparian is delayed after funds were withdrawn, leaving the department with only Rs190 million.
The committee has vowed to approach the prime minister to restore the museum’s funding.
The Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) also reported a severe financial crisis, aggravated by the FBR’s sudden recovery of Rs2 billion.
The committee expressed serious concern over the deduction and has summoned FBR officials for a briefing, emphasizing that financial stability is vital for protecting national religious sites.
