Qatar has inaugurated the Al-Mujadilah Center and Mosque for Women in Doha’s Education City, a facility dedicated entirely to women’s spiritual and intellectual growth.
Supported by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, this 50,000-square-foot space serves as a hub for worship, education, and community, featuring a mosque, library, and classrooms to foster women’s active engagement.
Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the facility features a modern design focused on intimacy and natural light, including two olive trees symbolizing knowledge.
Beyond daily prayers led by women, the center offers classes on Islamic history, mental health, and research grants for issues facing Muslim women.
It is considered one of the first purpose-built, comprehensive women’s mosques in the Muslim world, aiming to provide a space where women are not sidelined but centered in their religious experience.
It is worth mentioning that “Al-Mujadilah” translates to “the woman who pleads” or “the woman who argues,” referencing a woman from the Quran who approached the Prophet with a question.
