The ending of Sanwal Yaar Piya has sparked significant online backlash and debate following its finale on January 27, 2026. Many viewers feel the resolution was unjust and heartbreaking for the central character, Sanwal.
Fans are particularly upset that Sanwal (Ahmed Ali Akbar), who carried much of the story’s emotional weight, ended up alone after refusing to marry Piya to reunite her with Aliyar (Feroze Khan).
Many viewers labeled Piya as “selfish,” feeling she used Sanwal’s kindness and support throughout her struggles only to return to her original lover in the end.
I am so angry. #SanwalYaarPiya IS Sanwal, the soul. All credit to #AhmedAliAkbar! While Aaliyar was a good guy, he & Piya couldn’t work, just not logical. This was a cop-out, a favor, a balancing act? Don’t know, but it’s awful. This is how you ruin a good thing. #PakistaniDramas pic.twitter.com/3WLl9UoeS2

Critics on social media described the ending as “abrupt” and “unsatisfying,” noting that the narrative buildup toward a Sanwal-Piya pairing (often referred to by fans as #Sanwaliya) was discarded in the final moments.
Before the finale, there was already growing frustration that the plot had shifted too much into crime and political angles, which many felt diluted the original romantic essence of the show.
What a pathetic end to Sanwal Yar Piya. So sanwal fought for Piya throughout the drama, took a freaking bullet for her, stood with her throughout the court case, only for her to choose Aliyar? N even they didnt end up together? What was even the point of anything? #SanwalYaarPiya

While the majority of social media reactions have been negative—with some fans even threatening to boycott future Geo Entertainment dramas, a smaller segment of the audience appreciated the “realistic” and emotional approach of a selfless sacrifice.
They argue that the ending stayed true to the drama’s serious tone rather than providing a forced “happily ever after”.
