Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has warned mobile users that SIM cards left unused for a continuous period of six months may be deactivated by the relevant telecom operators.
According to the PTA, SIMs showing no record of calls, text messages or internet usage for 180 consecutive days will be considered inactive.
Once deactivated, telecom companies are authorised to reissue those numbers to new users.
The authority clarified that once a number has been reassigned, the previous user will have no legal right or claim over it.
However, users who are temporarily unable to use their SIMs may submit a written request or email to their telecom operator to have the number reserved for a specified period.
The PTA has advised consumers to use their mobile SIMs regularly and responsibly to avoid inconvenience or permanent loss of their numbers.
