The question of Pakistan’s participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup remains unresolved as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss all possible options.
During the meeting, Naqvi briefed the Prime Minister on the ongoing situation with the International Cricket Council (ICC), including concerns over what he described as double standards in ICC policies. Sources said Naqvi highlighted how India was allowed to refuse Pakistan in the Champions Trophy, while other countries faced different rules.
He also mentioned that Bangladesh had raised security concerns about playing in India but was excluded from the World Cup instead of being offered an alternative venue.
Following the meeting, Naqvi said on social media platform X that the Prime Minister instructed him to resolve the matter while keeping all options open.
He added that a final decision on Pakistan’s participation in the T20 World Cup is expected by Friday or Monday.
Sources also revealed that Pakistan could boycott its February 15 match against India in Colombo. Skipping the match would cost Pakistan only two points in the tournament but could inflict significant financial losses on the ICC.
Naqvi emphasized that if Pakistan does not participate, the country would miss out on substantial revenue allocated for World Cup participation.
