The fate of Pakistan’s participation in the 2026 T20 World Cup hangs in the balance as PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today, Monday, January 26.
The high-stakes meeting comes as the board faces a self-imposed deadline to decide whether to send the “Green Shirts” to the mega-event or boycott in solidarity with Bangladesh.
While a 15-member squad led by Salman Ali Agha has already been announced, Naqvi has made it clear that the team will only travel if the federal government gives its formal blessing, citing the ICC’s “double standards” in its recent disqualification of the Bangladesh team.
The ICC recently replaced Bangladesh with Scotland after the former refused to travel to India for their group matches due to security concerns.
Mohsin Naqvi has slammed the ICC’s decision as “unjust,” arguing that if a hybrid model was provided for Pakistan-India matches, the same flexibility should have been extended to Bangladesh.
Naqvi reiterated on Sunday that the PCB is “subservient to the government,” shifting the final responsibility to the Prime Minister’s desk.
