Nine people lost their lives when an avalanche struck a house, while one child sustained injuries in Chitral’s Domel area on Friday.
According to the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office in Chitral, the victims included four women and five men. The bodies of the deceased have been recovered.
Meanwhile, in Khyber district’s Tirah Valley, rescue operations are ongoing to safely relocate IDPs stranded due to recent heavy snowfall.
Deputy Commissioner Khyber, Bilal Shahid, said timely measures under the supervision of the district administration ensured the safety of all affected families.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast further rain and snowfall across different parts of the country from Sunday to Tuesday. Officials predict that a new Western Disturbance is likely to enter the country’s western regions on 25 January.
The department said this system would affect more areas on 26 January, bringing cold and humid weather.
According to the forecast, rainfall and snowfall are expected in various areas of Balochistan and Sindh on 25 and 26 January, with snow in hilly regions. From 26 to 27 January, precipitation and snowfall are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Similarly, rain and snowfall are also anticipated in Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad, and parts of Punjab, which may lead to a further drop in temperatures.
