Municipal Commissioner Afzal Zaidi has been removed from his position in the aftermath of the Gul Plaza tragedy.
Chief Secretary Sindh, Asif Haider Shah, issued the official notification regarding the decision.
According to the notification, Afzal Zaidi has been directed to report to the Services, General Administration and Coordination Department.
The notification also states that 19-grade XPCS officer Samira Hussain has been given additional charge of the Municipal Commissioner’s office.
Former Municipal Commissioner Afzal Zaidi had been under criticism since 30 November, when a three-year-old child, Ibrahim, tragically fell into a sewer and lost his life.
Sources within the Sindh government indicated that Zaidi’s performance during the Gul Plaza fire was also deemed unsatisfactory.
Last month, Afzal Zaidi was prevented from travelling abroad. Immigration sources said that he had arrived at Karachi Airport intending to travel to Turkey, but was offloaded after his name appeared on the stop list.
