Karachi Police recently conducted what is being described as the most significant operation of the year. The action was triggered by the identification of the suspects by a victimized child.
Imran and Waqas Khan were arrested in connection with a serial child abuse scandal involving over 100 victims.
Who are the Suspects?
Imran who is a primary suspect, is a resident of Manzoor Colony. Imran worked at a roadside puncture repair shop. According to police claims, he has confessed to abusing dozens of children over a period of six years.
Waqas Khan, identified as Imran’s associate, Waqas was apprehended alongside the main suspect. He is alleged to have assisted or participated in the crimes, including an incident where a victim was taken to the Surjani area.
The investigation revealed that the suspects primarily targeted young boys, specifically those between 12 and 13 years old.
The DNA Connection
The breakthrough in the case came from forensic evidence.
Between 2020 and 2025, Karachi police recorded seven different complaints across various districts. Specialized testing showed that the DNA found in all these separate cases matched a single individual, linking the crimes to Imran.
Imran reportedly lured children by offering them rides or the use of his motorcycle. He would then take them to secluded areas near the Malir River to carry out the abuse.
The arrest has been hailed as a major success by high-ranking officials, including Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
A specialized team led by DIG CIA Muqadas Haider was able to track down and arrest the “most-wanted” suspects within 11 days of the team’s formation on January 6th.
Currently, Imran has been positively identified by victims in at least three cases, and his DNA has matched all seven officially registered FIRs.
