Iran’s representative to the United Nations Security Council has made serious accusations against the United States and Israel, warning that any military or political aggression against Iran will be met with a strong and decisive response, while calling sanctions and so-called human rights slogans a clear violation of international law.
Addressing the United Nations Security Council, Iran’s Permanent Representative Gholamhossein Darzi said that the US’s call for a meeting on Iran’s internal situation is shameful and a reflection of political hypocrisy.
He alleged that so-called human rights organizations are actually advancing the Israeli agenda and that the sanctions imposed on Iran for years are directly affecting ordinary citizens.
The Iranian delegate said that ISIS-style attacks were carried out on protesters in Iran, and Iranian security guards sacrificed their lives to ensure the safety of citizens.
The United Nations Security Council has held an emergency meeting to discuss deadly protests in Iran amid threats by United States President Donald Trump to intervene militarily in the country.
Members of the influential 15-member UN body heard from Iran’s deputy UN representative, who warned at the meeting on Thursday that Iranians did not seek a confrontation but would respond to US aggression, and accused Washington of “direct involvement in steering unrest in Iran.”
